Classical Homeopathic Medicine

Classical Homeopathic Medicine

Classical homeopathy was brought to the United States from Germany and France in the early 1800’s. It is based on the “Law of Similars,” meaning that a remedy is applied to the sick patient, which would actually cause a similar set of symptoms in a healthy person if taken in a much larger dose. For example, if one has the symptom of malaria (such as intermittent chills and fever) but does not actually have malaria, homeopathy may find that the cure for the patient exhibiting these symptoms is often “quinine,” which is a conventional treatment for malaria.

Homeopathic Medicine is also the science of “dilution.” The remedies that are employed in treatment have mere trace levels of the actual substance. In homeopathy this is called the “infinitesimal dose.” The substance has been diluted to as much as one thousandth or more of its original strength which results in no side effects associated with taking a remedy.

Homeopathy is also based on the principle of “susceptibility.” Have you ever wondered why, in a room full of people with one person carrying the flu virus only a few people will get the illness? This is because the person who actually gets the virus is “susceptible” to the illness. What causes us to be susceptible? It could be lack of sleep, becoming run down from overwork, stress, a chill, over exposure to a virus, or any number of reasons.

What classical homeopathy does is to strengthen the constitution of the patient, thus restoring a kind of balance that allows the body to heal itself from within. This is why we sometimes call classical homeopathy “constitutional” homeopathy. Classical homeopathy is an effective way to treat long term (chronic) ailments by restoring this balance to the constitution. It has been effective in treating such conditions as asthma, allergies, joint pain, migraines, depression, and digestive disorders, to name a few.

Dr. Herring has an extensive background in Classical Homeopathy having studied with master homeopaths such world class homeopathic physicians as Massimo Mangialavori, Rajan Sankaran, Paul Herscu, and Ian Scholten.  Dr. Rho has a focus in Classical Homeopathy, having studied with master homeopaths such as Stephen Messer, Andre Saine, Paul Herscu, and Amy Rothenberg.
